Courses Offered by Us – MLISc

Objectives of the Course

  • To impart the students a thorough understanding of patterns of knowledge development and its organization;
  • To train the students in the advanced skills of information and knowledge gathering, processing, organization and retrieval;
  • To train the students in information/knowledge analysis, repackaging and marketing;
  • To provide the students with a thorough understanding of Information Technology applications in information environment, including networks and communication systems;
  • To train the students in the analysis, planning and management of the systems of library and information centres; and
  • To provide an understanding of research methods and activities of research organizations.

Duration: One Year (full-time) Course of Two Semesters

Intake: Fifty-eight (58) seats (including candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and OBC candidates) are divided equally under Category-I and Category-II. Admission to Category-I through Entrance Test and Category-II: Merit-based. However, the intake of foreign students (Maximum 4) will be in addition to the prescribed intake of 58 seats.

The break-up of Total 58 Seats

  • Category-I: Entrance Based Seat Distribution (Total Seats – 29) — UR (11), OBC (08), SC (05), ST (02) and EWS (03)
  • Category-II: Merit-Based Seat Distribution (Total Seats – 29) — UR (12), OBC (08), SC (04), ST (02) and EWS (03)

Note: The number of seats may vary. Supernumerary seats will be as per University of Delhi norms. Candidates must visit the respective Department office/website for the updated fee structure.

Admission Procedure: For admission to the Master of Library & Information Science (M.L.I.Sc.), the candidates must fulfil the Program Specific Eligibility and appear in the respective CUET paper. Refer to www.nta.ac.in for the syllabus of the CUET paper (Code No. COQP13).

  • 1A: B.L.I.Sc. from a recognized University
  • 1B: B.L.I.Sc. from the University of Delhi

Seats for Foreign Students and Procedure for their Admission

The Admission Committee on individual merit will consider international students’ applications, and a maximum of 4 seats will be offered to the international students. These seats will be in addition to the prescribed intake of 58 seats.

International students seeking admission to the M.L.I.Sc. Course in the Department of Library and Information Science must apply directly to the Foreign Students’ Advisor, Foreign Students’ Registry, Room No. 11, First Floor, Conference Centre, University of Delhi, Delhi-110007. They will arrange their admission in the Department.

International students stationed in India who have passed the last examination from the Board/University in India may seek admission based on merit, and other students may seek admission after obtaining a No Objection Certificate from the Foreign Students’ Advisor.

  • M-103: Advanced Knowledge Organisation: Cataloguing (Practical)
  • M-104: Information and Communication Technology Applications in LIS (Theory)
  • M-105: Research Methodology
  • M-106: Marketing of Library and Information Products and Services

M.L.I.Sc. Subjects: Second Semester

  • M-107: Information and Communication Technology Applications in LIS (Practical)
  • M-108: Information Storage and Retrieval System
  • M-109: Information Literacy Applications in LIS

M-110: Elective Papers (Choose any one of the following options)

  • M-110 (a): Public Library and Information System
  • M-110 (b): Academic Library and Information System
  • M-110 (c): Research and Technical Library and Information System
  • M-110 (d): Health Science Library and Information System
  • M-110 (e): Agricultural Sciences Library and Information System
  • M-110 (f): Engineering and Technological Library and Information System

M-111: Elective Interdisciplinary Papers (Choose any one of the following options)

  • M-111 (a): Print and Electronic Sources and Literature in Humanities
  • M-111 (b): Print and Electronic Sources and Literature in Natural Sciences
  • M-111 (c): Print and Electronic Sources and Literature in Social Sciences
  • M-112: Project Work: (a) Project Report, and (b) Viva-Voce
